Recumbent Exercise Bike

Introduction To Recumbent Exercise Bike

If this is your first time shopping around for an exercise bike you’re bound to get confused by the many definitions of exercise bikes like stationary bike or upright bikes, recumbent exercise bike and dual action bikes. In this article we’re not going to talk about the differences on every one of the exercise bikes, in fact we’re going to be talking bout benefits of recumbent exercise bike,

The purpose of this article is to introduce you to recumbent bike and why you should get it. What type of person would stand to benefit the most from recumbent bike and what is the price range. I will only be talking about a weakness of recumbent bike.

Exercise By Lying Down

Recumbent bike is named as such because recumbent means “lying down” and you literally exercise by lying down on the chair. The chair of a recumbent bike is famous for its comfort and Schwinn exercise bike manufacturer has taken an extra step by introducing the Bio Fit chair that will position your body; butt, hand and foot so that every contact point is comfortably fitting the exercise bike. It’s so comfortable that it almost feels like you’re relaxing on a hammock by the beach.

Comfortable as a hammock

And because of its wide seating, even an overweight person can sit comfortably without adjusting himself every few minutes. And this brings us to our second point which is stability. Recumbent bike is also very stable and as hard as I try to pedal, it won’t shake or make sound. This is obviously great for reading a book which is my favorite pastime.

And if you’re a TV or music person then I have a better news for you, with most stationary bikes like the traditional upright bikes you will have to crank up your TV/radio volume high because those bikes are noisy! With most recumbent bike comes with a magnetic resistance (meaning no cable or steel resistance making all those irritating noise) you won’t hear a sound coming from your bike even with hard pedaling. I watch my TV with normal sound level.

What if You're Easily Bored?

What if you’re the type of person who is easily bored by routine and need more challenges thrown at you almost everyday? Don’t fret because recumbent bikes often comes with a huge variety of workout programs (Schwinn comes with 16 different programs including hill climbing, sprinting, cross training and etc) and also a lot of resistance level. (Most comes with 15 to 20 resistance level which is even a challenge to an athlete)

Back Pain Problem?

And lastly if you have back pain, neck strain or upper body problem, recumbent bike is actually good for you. Why? Because you’re not sitting up with shoulder hunched in front on a normal exercise bike, you’re sitting on a nice, wide and comfortable chair with a backrest to support your back bone. Plus your legs are in front pedaling which means you don’t need to hunch to the front.

The Negative Part

One thing that’s not good about recumbent bike however is its not as intense as an upright exercise bike. Because you’re sitting down comfortably most people are not inclined to pedal very hard on that comfortable position. (nor can most people)

Main point on Recumbent Bike

The conclusion is that with any exercise program its better to be consistent than exercising hard but not being able to keep up with the program because of boredom, injury, or even because it’s too hard. With recumbent bike I won’t mind getting up every morning to exercise while watching my news and then on the evening read a book while riding a recumbent bike. Make the decision to buy recumbent bike today! You won’t regret it.
